One thing I hear often from parents is how tricky it can be to get photos of their sons. Teenage boys don’t always love being in front of the camera, and that’s okay. Knowing how to work at their pace, offer just enough guidance, and keep the experience low-pressure makes all the difference.

The goal for this session was to capture Walter’s style and personality at this moment in his life as he celebrated his 15th birthday. We started with an everyday look that felt easy and familiar, which helped him relax and feel more comfortable. I guided Walter through a series of simple poses while also leaving room for candid moments. I even asked if there were any photos he’d seen that he liked and wanted to try—and there were—so we put our own spin on them.

Later, we switched things up with a western-inspired look, and no surprise… these are my favorites! You can really see his confidence shine through in these images. Lately Walter’s been leaning into western style, and when you love what you’re wearing, it shows. Honestly, Cavender’s might need to get this guy on retainer! Am I right?

Walter’s session was relaxed, fun, and a great reminder that boys deserve portraits that reflect who they are, too. These years go by fast, and I'm grateful that his family chose me to create images that capture this moment.
