Shayla and Chip share a bond unlike any I’ve ever known. She is his eyes, and he is her wings.
I believe God puts special horses in our lives when we need them most, and sometimes... when they need us, too. Much like my own journey with my horse Samson, their story began the moment Shayla fell in love with a lesson horse. Every Appaloosa is one of a kind—no two have the same pattern—but Chip is extraordinary for another reason: he is completely blind.
But don’t mistake Chip's blindness for limitation. He is charming and silly, living a full and joyful life. He enjoys his days in the pasture with his buddy, able to do anything any other horse can. He and Shayla explore the property together on trail rides, moving as one, and I swear he uses echolocation, though Shayla sometimes offers gentle guidance with a simple cue—“Step!”—whenever he needs it. His trust in her would bring tears to your eyes.
Chip is a remarkable horse who is loved beyond measure.
