December 13 is National Day of the Horse, and I can’t think of a horse who embodies the equine spirit more than Kassius. A former Grand Prix jumper still competing and teaching into his twenties, Kassius is drop-dead gorgeous, incredibly athletic, and deeply loved by everyone lucky enough to know him well.

These photographs are the result of a delightful caper I was invited to be part of. Kassius’s owner Michelle has generously shared him with several capable students over the years, but his bond with Annie is something truly special. Annie wanted to surprise Michelle with a beautiful portrait as a heartfelt thank you— an expression of her gratitude and love for this remarkable horse.

So on a beautiful autumn day while Michelle was away at a show, we quietly conspired to create these keepsakes, and what resulted was a collection of images that will be cherished for years to come. These are but a few of the moments we captured that day.

If you have a special horse whose story deserves to be remembered, now is the moment to capture it. It would be my honor to create portraits you will treasure for a lifetime.
